Lemon Barley Twist
What you need:
  • 8 1/2 cups water
  • Juice and peels of 2 lemons
  • 3/4 cup pearl barley, washed and drained
  • 1/4 cup sliced fresh ginger
  • 1 cup caster sugar
Place caster sugar and water in a medium saucepan over low heat. Stir until sugar has dissolved. Throw in pearl barley, ginger and lemon peels and simmer for 30-40 minutes. Remove from heat, strain to remove lemon peels, pearl barley and ginger slices then transfer to a pitcher. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes. When ready, add lemon juice (and more sugar if desired) and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes. Serve over ice.
Honey Mint Ice
What you need:
  • 5 cups water
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 10-15 mint leaves
  • 2 tsps. fresh lemon juice
  • Small pinch of salt
Grind washed mint leaves with a little bit of water to create a paste. Combine the paste with water, stir well then strain the water into a pitcher. Add in the honey, lemon juice and salt into the pitcher and stir well. Chill in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes then serve over ice.
Spiced Fruity Treat
What you need:
  • 3 strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup diced ripe mango
  • 2 tbsps. fresh lime juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 8-10 ice cubes
  • A pinch of chipotle chili powder
Blend strawberries, mango, water and ice cubes briefly until smooth then transfer to a pitcher. Add lime juice and chili powder and stir well to combine. Serve immediately.
The Golden Smoothie
What you need:
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond or coconut milk
  • 1 tsp. organic coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla powder
  • Maple syrup to taste
  • A dash of nutmeg or cardamom
  • 3-4 ice cubes
Place almond or coconut milk, coconut oil, turmeric powder, vanilla powder, maple syrup and ice cubes in a blender. Process for 15-20 seconds on high until ice is crushed and ingredients are well-combined. Pour into glasses and sprinkle with nutmeg or cardamom before serving.
Apple Cinnamon Cooler
What you need:
  • 2 red apples, cut into chunks leaving skin on
  • 2 food-grade cinnamon sticks
  • 2 glasses water
  • 4 mint leaves
Distribute apple chunks among 2 glasses of water. Add a cinnamon stick and 2 mint leaves to each glass. Refrigerate overnight. Consume as is or serve over ice.
